Message is fine. But I would prep the hell out of them first. Full strip down (sand blast), wipe down with auto prep, probably 2-3 passes with base and then 1-2 with clear. And finally "bake" or let sit in a booth with a good amount of higher than ambient temp heat to ensure good cure. Suppose it would last like any other paint for some time. The color may also have something to do with the last of oxidation. But as far as potential bubbling and cracking on metal parts, you should be fine.
